Making an
Alpha Channel
I'm trying to make an alpha channel to save my graphic frame to import
into TEPS-2000. Whenever I try to select out the transparent portion
of my image with the magic wand, I can never seem to get all of the area
I want.
Usually the reason for this is that
you have several layers with different graphics and text.
Whatever layer you're on when you make your magic wand
selection determines what is being selected. Therefore,
you need to merge the layers into one so there will be
only one transparent area. BEFORE you do this, SAVE your
Photoshop file with all the layers in tact. You may need
to go back in and adjust a color, fix a typo, change
a title, etc. You want to keep the layers for that. So,
Save the file as a psd file. Then, click on the bottom
layer > pull out the arrow to the right of the Layers/Channels/Paths
tabs and select Merge Visible (Don't Flatten the image).
This merges all the visible layers into one, thus enabling
you to select the area to be transparent and make an
Alpha Channel. "Save a Copy As" and select
PICT file format (32 bits, compression none). Close the
Photoshop file and select "Don't Save". Then
import into TEPS database as usual.

Creating a
transparent shadow for a graphic/text
I created some text in Photoshop and have a drop shadow
for my text. When I use my text in TEPS-X on a template/node,
the drop shadow is not transparent and has a white outline
to it.

Jump To
I’m in TEPS but would like to touch up a photo in
Photoshop and return to TEPS quickly. How do I jump?
Providing you have enough RAM to run both Photoshop and
TEPS-2000 (and the Spooler if you’re using that too), you should set up
the Jump To feature. This
enables you to jump to Photoshop, make your edit and jump back to
TEPS very quickly.
FOR OS 9:
To set it up, double click your Hard Drive > double click the TEPS-2000
PRO Folder > click once on the Wizard labeled TEPS-2000 > go
to the File menu
(top of screen) and select Make Alias. Drag the alias out of the TEPS-2000
folder
and onto the desktop. Close all the windows (upper left corner). Double
click your Hard Drive > locate Photoshop (may be in the Applications
folder or directly on your hard drive) and double click the Photoshop
folder > double click the Helpers folder > double click the
Jump To Graphics Editor folder. Drag the TEPS-2000 alias into this
open folder. If using Photoshop 5.5, you must put brackets around
the TEPS-2000 alias like this: {TEPS-2000 alias}. Use the shift bracket
with the squiggly line, not the straight one. For Photoshop 6.0, no
brackets are needed. Close the Jump To Graphics Editor folder > click
once on the Photoshop application labeled “Adobe® Photoshop® 6.0” (or
5.5) > go to the file menu (top of screen) and select Make Alias.
Drag the alias out of the Photoshop folder and onto the desktop. Close
all
the windows (upper left corner). Double click your Hard Drive > double
click the
TEPS-2000 PRO or V9 Folder > double click the TEPS MISCELLANEOUS
FOLDER ƒ > double click the TEPS IMAGE EDITOR FOLDER ƒ.
Drag the Photoshop alias into
this folder (no brackets needed) > close all windows.
FOR OS X: YOU MUST HAVE PHOTOSHOP 7.0
To set it up, double click your Hard Drive > double click Applications
(not Applications Mac OS9) > double click TEPS OS X Folder > click
once on the Wizard Hat with Camera labeled TEPS-2000 Carbon > go
to the File menu (top of the screen) and select Make Alias. Drag the
alias out of the TEPS OS X Folder and onto the desktop. Close all
the windows (upper left corner). Double click your Hard Drive > locate
Photoshop and double click the Photoshop folder > double click
the Helpers folder > double click the Jump To Graphics Editor Folder.
Drag the TEPS-2000 Carbon alias into the Jump To Graphics Editor folder,
then close that window. Click once on the Photoshop application labeled
Adobe Photoshop 7 > go to the file menu (top of the screen) and
select Make Alias. Drag the alias out of the Photoshop folder and
onto the desktop. Close all the windows (upper left corner). Double
click your Hard Drive > double click Applications > double click
TEPS OS X Folder > double click TEPS MISCELLANEOUS FOLDER ƒ > double
click the TEPS IMAGE EDITOR FOLDER ƒ. Drag the Photoshop alias
into this folder > close all the windows.
From the Operation Window select “Jump to Image Editor” from
the pull down
menu under the thumbnail (or click and hold on the large picture in
the Image
Preview Window in Single Image Preview Mode). This will launch Photoshop
where you can make your change. From Photoshop, go to the File menu
and select Jump To, then select TEPS-2000 to jump back. Top

Edit a Node
from the Operation Window without returning to main
I know I can quickly edit my template if I click and hold the "Change
Canvas Setup" button and select "Edit This Template." What
if I want to edit the node? Is there a way to do that without having
to Return to Main and click Utilities and Setup Nodes?
A new feature has been added to version
8 where you can do just that. Follow the same steps to
edit the template (you have to get to the template 1st
before editing the node used on that template). To do
that, click and hold the "Change Canvas Setup" button
and select "Edit This Template." This gets
you into the Template Definition window. To edit a node,
hold the option key on the keyboard and double click
on the node you want to edit. That jumps you to the node
to make changes. Make your changes and close the Node
window (upper left corner) and select Save. That takes
you back to the Template window where you will see the
changes you just made. Close the Template window (upper
left corner) and Save. You're back in the Operation Window
with the template reflecting your node changes.

Printing
I want to
print multiple copies quickly
Is there a way to print 3 copies of the current canvas without having
to click print canvas and wait for it to send then repeat 2 more times?
Return to Main and go to the Preferences
(at top of screen) and select TEPS Settings. Select "Setup
Printing" on the left side. On the right side, check
the box next to "Show print quantity dialog before
printing." Then click OK. This will bring up a dialog
box when you click the "Print Canvas" button
asking for a quantity before printing. Of course you
could also set up a package for that particular canvas
and select 3 for the quantity. To do so, in the "Setup
Packages" Utility, double click on the Canvas on
the left side after you have added the item from the
Canvas list on the right side. This brings up a dialog
box, "Enter Print Quantity" where you can type
in 3 or whatever quantity you desire.

I want to
speed up printing 8-up wallets with graphic overlays
I've made my graphics in Photoshop to fit 8x10's and imported them into
TEPS and applied them to several different size nodes: 8x10's, 5x7's,
4x5's and wallets. I've noticed that it takes a long time to print the
wallets and sometimes I get out of memory messages. What's happening?
You've made your Photoshop file huge
to fit an 8x10 and you're having TEPS not only reduce
down 8 photos, but also 8 graphic overlays for each.
This is memory intensive. If you plan to use the graphic
overlay on 8x10's as well as wallets, it would be more
beneficial to return to Photoshop and size down the graphic
there to fit a wallet size, or maybe a 4x5 size if you're
using 4x5's as well. Return to TEPS and import the smaller
size overlay and replace the wallet and/or 4x5 node overlays
with the new size and save. This will expedite the sizing
process and won't require as much memory while loading
and printing. You should also check the amount of memory
allocated to TEPS and the Spooler. You may be running
right on the edge. Figure for 8x10's with overlays or
a page of wallets with overlays, your preferred size
should be set at least at 120,000K and depending on the
complexity of the graphics, maybe 130-150,000 if you
can spare it.

Checking
your graphics before printing
I've successfully imported my logo into a template, linked it and now
see it as an available canvas in the Operation Window Tool Bar canvas
list. In the Drag & Drop preview I can see how the logo looks with
an image. Somehow it's got white scraggly edges. I thought it was cleaner
than that.
It is. The preview you're seeing may not be high res enough. To check
your logo and any other graphics, do as you have done, but take one further
step; click and hold the "Preview Canvas" button and slide
down to "Preview High Res." Now you will see a true representation
of your logo or graphic.
